Right after the endoscopy, I was taken to the CT room for a contrast-enhanced scan. They started with a plain CT scan. Then, the head radiologist came in and told me they needed to change my IV line. It had been placed on the back of my right hand, but she moved it to the inside of my elbow. She explained that this would allow the contrast dye to be injected more quickly — not in a larger total amount, but at a faster rate per second. She also asked if I had any kidney problems.
From the way she spoke, I realized the scan had shown something wrong with my kidneys. She said they were going to do a more detailed scan than originally planned.
I was confused. “Wait, my kidneys too? That doesn’t even seem related to the nausea!” But as I listened, I began to understand — my condition was more serious than I had thought. I felt very uneasy lying on the CT table.
After the contrast-enhanced scan, she explained the results to me. Both of my ovaries were enlarged, which raised concerns about possible metastasis. There were also similar lesions around both ureters, and both of my kidneys had hydronephrosis, meaning they were swollen with fluid. More lesions were found around the duodenum as well.
Shaken by all that, I couldn’t return to work for the rest of the day.
